Showing appreciation and giving back to a society from which we have gained so much is the best way to repay society. IREKA CARES have been consistent in the past 5 years in supporting of various children homes and have Ireka’s volunteers sincerely to thank for spreading the happiness and smiles on the faces of the children.
The very foundation of IREKA CARES was laid on the realization of a company that is passionate about its social responsibility to make a difference to the lives of children from the homes we have adopted over the years. For 2015, there are a few of children homes such as Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home, Rumah Hope and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels; all of them are located in the Klang Valley area work closely with IREKA CARES in cherishing children with laughter and joyful.
An excellent turnout of volunteers at IREKA CARES meant that spending time with 32 children from Rumah Hope, Petaling Jaya and Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home, Bangsar was a big success.
The children and volunteers enjoyed themselves in bowling, swimming and playing badminton at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club, which nestled at JalanDamansara. Since October 2014, these monthly activities have brought the volunteers closer to the children and both are enriched by the experience. Miss Santha, carer from Rumah Hope says that her children always look forward to the first Saturday of every month and indeed, the squeals of laughter is testament to how much fun they are having.
This consistent event at the Club which started in October 2014 is befitting of IREKA CARES' Sports theme for its fifth and final year. The idea is to provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to participate in different sports activities every month with the direct involvement of the volunteers who supervise the children's safety and provide coaching for them. Sometime in September 2015, a grand finale competition between the children will be held.
Besides the monthly outing, Ireka Cares also celebrates festive seasons with children from children homes. For instance, they held a Christmas Party at a local KFC outlet (as requested by the children) and the restaurant was decorated by volunteers and children working together. They had prepared presents for each of the children with funds raised from many colleagues across the organization. Games were played and Christmas songs were sung before all headed home with a great sense of happiness and satisfaction.
Datuk Lai Foot Kong, IREKA CARES’ Steering Committee Chairman said, “It is a delight to see such joy on the children’s faces today and I am proud that we have the opportunity to provide enjoyment forthe children over a period of a year rather than just having a one-off event. I am especially grateful to Ireka’s volunteers who give up their time so generously to plan for each event to ensure that everyone has fun and to look after the children so lovingly. I am really looking forward to more of the same in the rest of 2015!”
