KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia’s 2015 World Hunger Relief (WHR) campaign successfully collected a total of RM3.6million through its recent fundraising campaign. It is roughly a million more than 2014’s effort. Recently, CSR Malaysia gets in touch with QSR BRANDS (M) SDN BHD to gain a better insight into the organization and its CSR initiatives with the World Hunger Relief (WHR) that have generated over RM17 million collectively through its numerous fund raising awareness campaigns and tremendous support from the public.
The annual initiative is to help end world hunger, and raise money through a four-month campaign that began in June 2015. Similar to the previous years, funds were raised through selling KFC’s & Pizza Hut’s “World Hunger Meals” (these special meals were charged an extra 50 sen and channelled to the WHR fund), and donation boxes placed at KFC & Pizza Hut outlets. Donations were also collected online through the WHR Facebook page.
To further increase the awareness of food scarcity, hunger issues, and poverty, the WHR Charity Concert was held on November 14, 2015 as the grand finale to KFC and Pizza Hut’s annual WHR campaign.
Dato’ Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim, President & Chief Executive of Johor Corporation cum Chairman of QSR Brands (M) Holdings SdnBhd said “I would like to thank the public and their generosity and continuous support towards this noble cause.”
“2015 is the year where WHR Malaysia employs lots of manpower not only to raise funds but also to distribute funds, which were collected in 2014 across Malaysia. My deepest appreciation also goes to all KFC and Pizza Hut’s employees, who have worked hard in making this year’s campaign a success. I hope that they will actively participate in noble initiatives such as WHR in the future.”
As in previous years, the majority of the proceeds will be channelled across Malaysia via numerous associations with local NGOs and organizations in reaching out to underprivileged communities. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the United Nations’ World Food Programme to aid individuals from the most impoverished corners of the globe suffering from hunger and starvation.
More than a thousand guests attended the charity concert, which featured performances by local singing sensations AnuarZain, NingBaizura, and MishaOmar. Guests included sponsors, KFC and Pizza Hut employees, residents from local welfare and charitable homes, NGOs, celebrities as well as members of the media.
The Permaisuri of Johor, DYMM Raja ZarithSofiahBintiAlmarhum Sultan Idris Shah, the royal patron of WHR was the Royal Guest of Honour at the event. Also present to show their support were BelkacemBenzaza, Head of UN Humanitarian Response Depot, United Nations World Food Programme; MadeleneSachi, Chief Legal Officer Asia, Add Hope & Deliver Hope Ambassador Asia; as well as KFC & Pizza Hut Malaysia’s WHR spokesperson, SchaAlyahya.
