KPMG is a global network of professional firms providing audit, tax and advisory services. Over the years KPMG in Malaysia has been active in various activities to support the community. Recently, CSR Malaysia gets in touch with KPMG Malaysia to gain a better insight into the organization and its CSR initiatives.
KPMG strongly believes that environmental sustainability goes hand-in-hand with societal development and as a business entity operating within the community. At the heart of KPMG, the Firm upholds four major Corporate Citizenship key themes- Education, Youth, Environment and Community.
Among the numerous initiatives carried out throughout the year are the signature programs which represent four themes – Regional Outreach Program, SEATRU Volunteer Program, Eco Dive Program and some volunteering in certain homes and charitable organizations.
Education – Regional Outreach Program
The Regional Outreach Program is an exclusive collaboration with KPMG in Singapore to build a lasting legacy in Dalat, Vietnam. As a long-term commitment to help improve the lives of the local community in Elephant Village, volunteers take time off work to travel to Elephant Mountain to teach village children English and Arts & Craft. With each visit, volunteers bridge the gaps in language and culture.
Youth – SEATRU Volunteer Program
The Sea Turtle Research Unit Program sees a unique collaboration between KPMG professionals and university students in preserving nature. The program empowers young people to change the world through first-hand exposure and to issue the threatening livelihood of endangered turtle species and providing them suitable living environment.
Environment – Eco Dive Program
2016 will mark the tenth anniversary of KPMG’s Eco Dive Program! KPMG Malaysia’s ‘underwater audits’ is key to combat coral reef degeneration, and has won the prestigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2015. The Eco Dive project aims to collect valuable data to monitor changes in coral reef health from year to year. To achieve this, KPMG in collaboration with Reef Check Malaysia has trained and sent volunteers to conduct annual underwater coral reef surveys at selected representative sites surrounding Tioman Island since 2007.
KPMG-ians are encouraged to volunteer their time and skills to local shelters or homes to lend a helping hand to those who need it most. Partnering with various NGOs such as PAWS, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, PERTIWI Soup Kitchen, Yayasan Chow Kit and others enables KPMG-ians to offer their time and skills to give back to the community in meaningful ways. Individual departments and functional groups within the Firm are also encouraged to plan and execute Corporate Citizenship projects on their own accord to support communities that the Firm is committed to.
