Zurich Insurance played its part in contributing to the society by organizing a charity cook-out session in conjunction with its annual Global Community Week (GCW). Each year, Zurich employees worldwide take a week to show their commitment in improving the lives of the local communities through a range of volunteer projects. This year, ZIM took on a different spin with GCW by collaborating with emerging culinary experts, Pop Up Dining KL.
The charity drive kicked off at Menara Zurich at 6am with a cook-out session, attended by 10 teams of over 300 employees to prepare food and beverages in pre-packed meals to be sold around the Klang Valley. Each team was led by different members of the Senior Management team.
Pop Up Dining KL trio Amanda Huang, Daniel Yap and Miki Maria Lie were present to assist teams in preparing the meals. They helped improvise the taste and presentation of the dishes, ensured the cleanliness of the food, and also provided tips on how to package the meals in a presentable manner. Gourmet dishes, desserts, snacks, pastries, fruit juices and more were sold within the price range of RM 2 to RM 20 in the name of charity. Among the locations where teams sold their food were Universiti KL, Wisma Zelan, Wisma Selangor Dredging, Wisma Cosway and more.
The team managed to raise RM85,000 in cash with a total of 3885 volunteer hours contributed for a good cause. In an effort to do good for the betterment of the community, GCW was also executed at the branch level where each of ZIMB branch offices across Malaysia were empowered to run their own charitable activities. Most branches donated monetary funds, school and food supplies, helped cleaned charitable homes and even treated underprivileged children for an exciting day at a local fun fair.
