The Vinod Sekhar Foundation announced that it pledges RM200,000 to continue the good work of a group of individuals who sacrificed their time and effort to help the needy during the Movement Control Order (MCO) that began in March till June.
Chairman and Chief Executive Office of the PETRA Group, Datuk (Dr) Vinod Sekhar made the announcement at an appreciation dinner held at Cinchetti Restaurant and Wine Bar recently for seven individuals who have selflessly contributed their time and energy towards the COVID-19 MCO relief efforts. The foundation had already contributed more than RM100,000 to these individuals since March this year.
“At the time when the majority of Malaysia sheltered at home, these individuals risked their lives and went out to help those who were in dire straits. It is a testament to the Malaysian spirit of unity and humility. Greatness is not what you achieve or what you have, but what you give. What these individuals have sacrificed, have enriched the lives of so many who were, and continue to be impacted by COVID-19. I thank them for allowing the Vinod Sekhar Foundation the privilege of contributing to their work,” said Datuk Vinod.
At the event, the seven celebrated individuals were also given a certificate of appreciation by the Foundation. The Kuala Lumpur-based recipients were:
- Sheila Phillip, For Goodness Cakes
- Subhasree Vairamuthu, independent contributor
- Soh Sook Hwa, independent contributor
- Vinodt Apparao, Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak WP & Pusat Kebajikan Warga Tua Wilayah Persekutuan
- Hanim Seymore, Buku Jalanan Chow Kit
- Siti Rahayu Bahrin, Buku Jalanan Chow Kit
- Shankar Shanthiram, The Fire Grill
The Vinod Sekhar Foundation will continue to assist these individuals with their respective charity and outreach programmes by allocating an additional RM200,000 from August till December.
David Hashim, Founder and Group President of VERITAS Design Group, pledged an additional RM20,000 to the Vinod Sekhar Foundation for this initiative. The initiative will be managed by veteran radio announcer and actor Patrick Teoh, as well as renowned film and TV actor, Hans Isaac.
“Hopelessness, fear and this pandemic does not know no race, religion or political affiliation. These seven individuals have given others hope when there was little. They have shown that regardless of background, they were able to lift those whose spirits were lost with hope. That is the most powerful feeling in the world. It is incumbent upon those of us who can do more. This must not end here and we will continue to support those in need,” said Datuk Vinod.
