Allianz Malaysia’s Social Related Initiatives in the Klang Valley

Allianz Malaysia organised the Allianz for Good initiative, aimed at encouraging employees to give back to society through their choice of social related initiatives.

Close to 1,000 employees from various departments at the Head Office and branches pledged to carry out various charitable activities. This was the company’s first large-scale social related initiative involving employees.

Ng Siew Gek, Head of Allianz4Good, the Corporate Responsibility arm of Allianz Malaysia, said the aim of the Allianz for Good initiative was about planting a seed of thought and seeing it flourish.

“We wanted to carry out our employee volunteering initiative a little differently this year. Instead of having one event with limited participation opportunities, we empowered all our employees to pursue charitable or social related initiatives they are passionate about,” said Ng.

“The participation rate was tremendous. Each of the proposed initiatives was different, thoughtful, and creative. It was also great to see employees from different departments and branches come together to support a common goal,” added Ng.

Some of the initiatives included planting of Malaysian fruit trees and vegetables in Kampung Ayer Salak; volunteering at the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre; bringing some joy to paediatric cancer patients at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM) and refurbishing the ward’s reading and toy room; conducting financial literacy education session, batik and ceramic painting as well as visitation to the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery for underprivileged children; food packaging for underprivileged communities; giving a fresh coat of paint to Fugee School’s building; and providing free hair cut to  underprivileged children.

Apart from that, the employees also conducted activities related to environmental issues as well, this included conducting eco-awareness programmes for the children; and beach cleaning activity at various locations.

“It is important to understand that charity comes in many different forms. No matter how big or small, any charitable activity can be an impactful experience. As much as it benefits the cause itself, volunteering in charitable activities can be psychologically rewarding. We hope that our initiatives will inspire others out there to also be charitable with their time and effort and do something good for society,” continued Ng.

Besides the Allianz for Good initiative, Allianz Malaysia has also organised its annual Charity Day for its Life insurance agents since 2014.
