The recent Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2024 organized by CSR Malaysia under the auspice of Pertubuhan Amal Tanggungjawab Kemapanan Dan Korporat Malaysia have gathered corporations and non-governmental organizations from across the country.
The 9th edition of the awards ceremony which was officiated by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, celebrated 67 awardees and corporations who excelled in their efforts to promote sustainable economy and as change agents in transforming the country’s socio-economy.
The ceremony that was held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel highlighted corporations’ initiatives in reaching out to the needy and marginalized groups of the society. The evening saw donations made by Mah Sing Group, Lumut Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd., Yayasan Bank Rakyat, and STM Lottery Sdn. Bhd. to their selected causes.
At the ceremony, Mah Sing Group donated a RM57,260 cheque to Projek BacaBaca, an initiative by Taylor’s and Mah Sing Foundation aiming to tackle learning poverty faced by children coming from the B40 group. Lumut Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. donated a cheque of RM179,140.42 while Yayasan Bank Rakyat donated a cheque of RM28.35 million and finally, STM Lottery Sdn. Bhd. with their generous contribution of RM36.67 million donated to various charities. The cheques were received by the Chairman of CSR Malaysia, Dato’ R. Rajendran, on behalf of the charities.
The donations prove that social responsibility is an essential component of a corporation, removing the belief that corporations only concern themselves with matters that are profit-orientated.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, among them Y.A.M. Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariam bte Al-Marhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj and Tan Sri Faizah Tahir, Patron of CSR Malaysia together with Dato’ R. Rajendran, Chairman of CSR Malaysia and Mr. Lee Seng Chee, CSR Malaysia’s Co-Chairman and Managing Editor.
The donations and efforts by corporate Malaysia at the ceremony serve as beacons for others to take the call to better Malaysia’s humane effort in lending helping hands to the underprivileged and to foster sustainability in business practices.
