The recent floods that affected many residents in the Klang Valley has spurred Malaysia’s largest home improvement retailer, MR D.I.Y. Group (M) Berhad (MR D.I.Y.), to help. The retailer mobilised its MR D.I.Y Cares unit to quickly source, pack, and partner with several organisations to distribute everyday essentials to affected communities.
The experienced MR D.I.Y. Cares team, which runs an average of 44 corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community outreach projects nationwide each year, amassed COVID-19 self-test kits and protective equipment, recyclable bags, hand gloves, rubber boots, garbage bags, household cleaning products, and food aid, which were then distributed to affected residents in Shah Alam, Klang, Hulu Langat and Puncak Alam in Selangor, as well as in Pahang.

These programmes were carried out in partnership with a number of partners, including the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Gladius Mobile Aid, and ‘Team x4’, to ensure the essentials reached those who most needed them.
MR D.I.Y. also went the extra mile to help its employees in Hulu Langat who were badly affected by the floods. About 60 MR D.I.Y. Cares volunteers were deployed to the affected areas to assist with the clean-up effort and other necessities.

A spokesperson for MR D.I.Y. Group said, “It is heartbreaking to see how badly the flood affected our communities. Many have suffered extensive losses, as well as mental and emotional stress. As a homegrown Malaysian business, we want to support them in these challenging times, and to bring some relief to their lives. Our appreciation and thanks to the various organisations who helped ensure these essentials reached the people who most needed them. We hope that those affected will continue to stay strong, motivated and safe.”
MR D.I.Y. Cares volunteers are continuing their flood relief initiatives in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, Mentakab, Pahang, and Sungai Lui, Kajang, Selangor.
