Biocon Malaysia has consistently shown a strong dedication to environmental conservation initiatives. We are actively seeking ways to contribute to the well-being of the planet through partnerships with local governmental and non-governmental organisations.
One standout method in our environmental pursuits involves the use of Effective Microorganisms (EM) mud balls to purify contaminated water bodies such as rivers and lakes. These mud balls comprise a mixture of clay, effective microorganisms, and other beneficial elements that aid in breaking down pollutants and improving water quality. Collaborating with the Green Earth Society (GES) Johor, renowned for its involvement in various environmental activities, represents a strategic partnership. To date, we have conducted mud ball deployment activities at two distinct water bodies in Johor.

Apart from the mud ball initiatives, we regularly conduct beach cleaning operations in collaboration with local environmental activist Dharma and the Pengerang Municipal Council. These efforts focus on removing waste and debris from shorelines to prevent pollution and protect marine ecosystems. Over 500 kilograms of waste, predominantly single-use plastics, have been cleared from the shorelines thus far.

Tree planting has become a cornerstone of many contemporary environmental initiatives. Recognised as a simple yet impactful method to combat carbon emissions and revitalise ecological systems, tree planting has gained significant prominence. At Biocon Malaysia, we have adopted a firm stance on environmental conservation through our Biologics Woodlands project. This initiative entails a commitment to planting one tree annually for each employee, symbolising our dedication not just to tree planting but also to establishing a thriving forest ecosystem. Concurrently, tree planting efforts support reforestation, carbon capture, and biodiversity preservation.
By amalgamating these endeavours – incorporating EM mud balls for water purification, organising beach cleaning campaigns for coastal hygiene, and advocating tree planting for environmental sustainability – organisations and communities can markedly progress environmental protection objectives and cultivate ecological equilibrium.
