Boehringer Ingelheim’s B-Effect Programme: Empowering Communities Through the Power of Care

Apr 24, 2026 | CSR Stories

Over two weekends, Boehringer Ingelheim’s colleagues in Kuala Lumpur and Penang stepped forward to empower caregivers, offering knowledge, skills, and compassion through a programme designed to strengthen mental health support in the community.

In honour of World Mental Health Day, Boehringer Ingelheim’s staff embraced the spirit of B-Effect by volunteering across two weekends in Kuala Lumpur and Penang to support caregivers of individuals living with chronic and mental health conditions by hosting a transformative session on Psychological Health First Aid (PHFA). Partnering with the Malaysia Mind-Body Medicine Practitioners Association (MBMPA), the initiative focused on equipping caregivers with practical tools, knowledge, and emotional support to help them manage the challenges of caring for loved ones.

The event kicked off with two dynamic half-day sessions on Psychological Health First Aid (PHFA), a globally recognised framework for delivering immediate psychological support during times of distress. Boehringer Ingelheim is proud to announce that every participating colleague successfully completed the training, earning certification as Mental Health First Aid providers. This certification was a critical step, ensuring that its volunteers were equipped with the right skills and understanding before stepping into their roles as mental health advocates.

Armed with this knowledge, Boehringer Ingelheim’s team facilitated a series of impactful activities during the event on 4th October in Kuala Lumpur and 18th October in Penang. These included reflective listening workshops, where caregivers learned techniques to manage stress and communicate effectively, and small-group support circles, which provided a safe space for sharing experiences and building resilience. Beyond structured sessions, Boehringer Ingelheim’s staff offered something even more valuable, empathy, compassion, and hope. They listened, encouraged, and reminded caregivers that they are not alone in their journey.

This initiative is more than an event; it is a testament to Boehringer Ingelheim’s ongoing commitment to champion mental health and strengthen the communities it serves. By empowering caregivers, Boehringer Ingelheim is indirectly improving the well-being of those living with chronic and mental health conditions, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

Boehringer Ingelheim is thankful to all volunteers who embraced this mission wholeheartedly. Their dedication speaks volumes about shared values of care, collaboration and impact. Together, they are building a healthier, more supportive community for all.
