Empowering Education One Step at A Time

Education is the core of nation building. In an interview with CSR Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, Yayasan Bank Rakyat and Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad share how they are contributing in helping the education sector.

Malaysia Airports Holdings today reveal that it has worked with the Ministry of Education in coming up with programmes to elevate English proficiency among children in the rural areas.

In an interview with CSR Malaysia, Nik Anis Nik Zakaria, General Manager of Corporate Communication said that they have been adopting schools as one of their flagship education programmes and to date, have adopted more than 30 schools.

 

“We work with the schools and we come out with more funds and creative programmes for the children to learn English.”

“That way we are able to help them become more confident and more capable in embracing the English language as a subject,” she added.

Sharing the same sentiment, Janice Toh, the Corporate Responsibility Manager for Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad said that they provide learning centres throughout its plantations and providing basic education to its workers’ children.

“We want to empower young children with education opportunity. We are also partnering with education specialist in order to enhance and empower children for education,” she said.

On another note, Mohd Fauzi Md Fadzil stated that Yayasan Bank Rakyat has been collaborating with universities by sponsoring research conducted by them.

“We sponsor their research so that the research can be used by the public and at the same time we create some modules, and the modules can be used by the schools,” the acting General Manager of Yayasan Bank Rakyat said.

Similarly, Jeffrey, Head of Corporate Responsibility for Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad said that they are focusing on providing financial protection as well as financial education programme.

“We want to educate more people to understand about the importance of being prepared for the future. This is why we started sponsoring insurance plans for the B40 groups since 2013.”

“From there, we let them learn about how important is this financial protection plan for individuals,” Jeffrey added.
