Loud chatter and squeals filled the Red-Carpet Entrance of the Base, accompanied by the soaring sound of an airplane taking off.
The little ones from the Children’s Protection Society, Wisma Yatim Lelaki, and Perempuan had assembled. This activity was in collaboration with Dr. Wong Teik Aun, a senior lecturer from INTI College Penang. As the seats of the Lower Walhalla Hall gradually filled, the event began with self-introductions by the children. Their shyness was masked by the wide smiles they wore as they announced their names, ages, and schools.
Breakfast was served and a bonding moment between the kids ensued. With their tummies full, they were divided into groups. The younger children began building wooden cars or airplanes, while the older ones worked on assembling Breadboard Internal Connections with guidance from our engineers.
As they tweaked the wooden pieces and adjusted the wires, the challenges they faced dampened their spirits, but they were not ready to be defeated. The teammates displayed teamwork, assisting and offering their input in the assembly process.
“Are there any batteries?” were the exact words they exclaimed when they had finished. As they popped them in, the orange-coloured front blades of the airplanes spun swiftly and began moving forward. The children had to give chase to avoid damaging their “newly-built airplanes!”
To reward them for their efforts, simple games were curated, and prizes were awarded to the winners! During the science quiz session, the children scrambled to raise their hands and shouted out the answers to the questions – eager to get their hands on the prizes.

Hugging the various gifts they had won, the satisfied children beamed as they munched on their burgers. “I want to come back here next time.” “So happy.” The little ones shared their thoughts with our helpers who were involved. The day wrapped up beautifully with joyous smiles on their faces as they looked forward to similar activities in the future!
