AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad has contributed RM2 million to the Malaysian AEON Foundation’s ‘AEON Smart Classroom Programme’, alongside an additional RM2 million contribution from AEON CO. (M) Bhd. The programme aims to provide quality education through the restoration and digitalisation of existing classroom experiences in schools nationwide.
The ‘AEON Smart Classroom Programme’, with a total investment of RM4 million, extends the Foundation’s ‘AEON Sayap Bagimu’ initiative, which was first launched in September 2021 and has benefited 4,150 secondary students nationwide. This sustainable community initiative seeks to enhance digital learning in schools across the country and bridge the education gap for students from low-income families by providing equal learning opportunities and strengthening their readiness to realise the aspiration of developing Malaysia as a digital nation.
To date, under the ‘AEON Sayap Bagimu’ programme, AEON Credit and AEON CO. (M) Bhd. have sponsored RM4 million worth of 4,150 Samsung Galaxy Tabs with Unifi Mobile internet connections and online tuition classes in 2021. These were distributed to students from eligible low-income families across Malaysia. In 2024, a total of 40 schools received digital classroom setups through collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Yayasan Didik Negara.
Daisuke Maeda, AEON Credit Managing Director and Vice President II of MAF, commented that the ‘Smart Classroom Programme’ represents AEON Credit’s social pillar commitment under its 3-year Sustainability Roadmap. It aims to improve digital literacy in schools and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 of Quality Education, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
“We are grateful to the Malaysian AEON Foundation for giving us the opportunity to play an integral role in providing better education for students across the country. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Yayasan Didik Negara for their unwavering support.”
“It is a fundamental right that every child deserves a quality education, and we are aware of the challenges faced by both students and schools. Through the ‘AEON Smart Classroom Programme’, students will receive the necessary support to succeed in their studies, with smart classroom facilities equipped with the latest audio-visual technology and infrastructure suitable for modern learning methods.”
The AEON Smart Classroom Programme, which was rolled out across 40 secondary and primary schools nationwide in 2022, saw an additional 12 schools receiving support in 2023. Future engagement programmes will promote digital literacy among teachers and students, aiming to reduce the digital gap in the community.
