In a heartfelt visit that blended compassion with community spirit, CSR Malaysia recently spent a memorable day at the Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home, a registered foster home operating since 2007. Nestled in a quiet residential area, the Lighthouse is home to 40 children aged between 4 and 20 and is run by the devoted husband-and-wife team, Mr and Mrs Steven, who have dedicated their lives to caring for children in need.
The CSR Malaysia team, committed to championing social initiatives through its outreach programmes, brought joy and cheer to the children with fun activities and delicious treats, including brownies and roti jala. During the visit, the team also presented a cash donation to Mrs Steven in support of the home’s ongoing efforts. The highlight of the day was a creative keychain painting session, where team members and children bonded over brushes and bright colours, laughter echoing through the home. The interaction not only gave the children an enjoyable break from their daily routine but also provided a meaningful opportunity for volunteers to connect and give back to society in meaningful ways.

Beyond the activities, the visit offered a deeper insight into the remarkable work being done at Lighthouse. Mrs Steven, a trained early childhood educator, shared heartfelt stories of the couple’s journey — from taking in their first abused child to now managing four rented houses with full-time staff and volunteers. Mr Steven, once employed in banking and later as a school bus driver, has shifted his focus entirely to supporting the home, despite personal setbacks, including an injury that halted his income.
Their unwavering commitment has made the Lighthouse a sanctuary. Not just for orphaned or abandoned children, but also for a pregnant mother and a newborn baby in recent months. The home champions a family-based model of care that sets a high standard in child development and community involvement, often going above and beyond national requirements.
CSR Malaysia is proud to support such an inspiring organisation and looks forward to continuing its mission of empowering lives through compassionate action.
