Kloth Cares, the community movement under Kloth Circularity, is proud to announce its expansion into Penang, bringing its fabric recycling network to one of Malaysia’s most environmentally progressive states and making responsible clothing disposal more accessible to northern communities.
The expansion comes in response to strong public demand and growing concern over clothing and fabric waste. In Penang, Kloth Cares has partnered with key commercial and public spaces partners to install fabric recycling bins at strategic locations, including:
- AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam
- AEON BiG Bukit Minyak
- Gurney Plaza
- Setia SPICE Convention Centre
- Pengkalan Weld Pos Malaysia
- New World Park
“We have received countless requests from Penangites to install Kloth Cares fabric recycling bins, and we are proud that this is now a reality. With recycling awareness already widespread, we anticipate a significant collection of unwanted fabrics and clothing from Penang. Now, the community can take meaningful action with this facility in place,” said Nik Suzila Hassan, Co-founder of Kloth Circularity.
A collaboration between PPB Properties, Riiicycle and Kloth Cares, the REplace Project Recycling Corner at New World Park offers the public 24/7 access to responsibly recycle paper, plastic, tins, e-waste and fabrics. Riiicycle, a recycling partner of Kloth Cares in Penang, plays a key role in supporting the local community by providing accessible recycling infrastructure and ensuring that recyclable materials are managed responsibly to maximise environmental impact.

Guided by its 5R Principles — Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle — Kloth Cares enables the public to recycle a wide range of items, including clothing, undergarments, footwear, bags and towels. A full list of accepted items is available via Kloth Circularity’s fabric recycling guide.
To date, Kloth Circularity has collected over 14 million kg of unwanted textiles and clothing across Malaysia and Singapore, equivalent to more than 84 million of t-shirts diverted from landfills and incinerators. The growing bin network now covers Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Perak and Penang, alongside its neighbouring country, Singapore.
Collected items are channelled through multiple recycling pathways, including export to developing countries via the global textiles and clothing recycling market, and upcycling through Kloth Woman Up — a social impact initiative that empowers women from marginalised communities through creative sewing. To date, over 48,500 pieces of upcycled merchandise have been produced and sold, enabling these ladies to generate a fair income while extending the life of discarded textiles.
