At KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital, its commitment to sustainability goes beyond the hospital environment. It believes that protecting the planet also means taking action to preserve our marine ecosystems and natural habitats.
As part of its environmental sustainability efforts, KPJ Kajang carried out two consecutive initiatives at Pulau Tioman in May 2025, focusing on marine conservation, biodiversity protection and environmental awareness.
Its sustainability journey began with a coral propagation activity in the waters around Kampung Salang, Pulau Tioman. A total of 15 trained staff participated in a diving mission to plant and restore damaged coral reefs.
The initiative aimed to support the regeneration of fragile coral ecosystems and marine biodiversity. Beyond the physical restoration work, the activity provided staff with a meaningful, hands-on experience that strengthened their understanding of the importance of protecting our oceans.
Through this initiative, KPJ Kajang’s team experienced first-hand that sustainability extends beyond the hospital, and is also about protecting the natural ecosystems that support life and communities.
The following day, the team continued its environmental efforts with a beach clean-up at Pulau Tulai, Tioman.
Although the beach appeared clean and well-preserved, the team still collected a significant amount of waste, particularly plastic items and food containers. This experience highlighted that even seemingly pristine natural environments can harbour hidden waste, showing that continuous environmental awareness and action remain essential.
The clean-up not only helped remove potential pollutants from the coastline but also encouraged the team to become more conscious of how everyday waste can eventually reach and threaten marine ecosystems.
From Awareness to Action
These back-to-back initiatives reflect KPJ Kajang’s belief that sustainability is not merely a concept, but a shared responsibility translated into action.
From restoring coral reefs beneath the sea to removing waste from our shores, the team came together to protect biodiversity, reduce environmental pollution and strengthen our connection with nature.
