Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad (“KPS Berhad”) celebrated the culmination of its flagship programme, the KPS Berhad Celik Initiative 2025 (“the Initiative”), with a Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony held at the Galaxy Hall, Petrosains, The Discovery Centre (“Petrosains”). At its core, the event showcased how Malaysia’s young talents applied STEM in the day-to-day aspects of life.
Since its inception in 2022, the Initiative has grown from a pilot programme in Selangor, initially focused on digital access, into a national platform advancing STEM participation in support of the national 60:40 Science-to-Arts aspiration. In 2023, it expanded to four states, adopting a structured STEM framework that directly engaged 1,000 students and 191 teams from 20 schools through hands-on workshops and project development phases, while indirectly reaching a further 20,000 students through interactive learning activities. The following year, in 2024, the Initiative continued with this structured approach, involving 320 students and 80 teams from 20 schools in workshops and project development, with an indirect reach of 21,680 students through school- based STEM Carnivals.

This year, the Initiative was elevated as the flagship initiative of KPS Berhad’s Educational Development Programme and expanded to eight states: Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kedah, Perak, and Penang.
This year’s edition marked the first introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) as a core challenge. With Petrosains as the technical partner, students explored IoT concepts through workshops and mentoring before applying them to real-world problem-solving projects.
62 teams from 46 schools participated in the IoT STEM Workshop phase, refining their projects over eight weeks before advancing to the Implementation Phase. This culminated in the State-Level Judging, where the best teams from each state were selected. From there, the Top 9 teams nationwide advanced to the Grand Finale, each showcasing the highest levels of student innovation.
The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Smart Innovator from SMA Repah as Champion of the KPS Berhad Celik Initiative 2025 with their prototype “Smart Worm Bin”, which recycles
organic waste from school canteens using African Night Crawlers and Arduino-based monitoring to produce high-quality compost. This solution promotes sustainability, reduces landfill waste, and supports STEM learning. Brainiacs from SMK Jelai (F) and STEX 3 from SMK Taman Scientex were also honoured for their outstanding projects, reflecting the creativity and talent of Malaysian youth.
“The KPS Berhad Celik Initiative 2025 reflects our commitment to equipping young Malaysians with the skills and mindset needed for the future. By introducing IoT into the Initiative, we are enabling students to experiment, collaborate, and apply creative, STEM-powered solutions to real-world challenges, preparing them to help shape the world of tomorrow,” said Zul Mawardi, Chief Sustainability Officer, KPS Berhad.
The Initiative also supports KPS Berhad’s broader sustainability agenda, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly those related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Looking ahead, KPS Berhad will continue strengthening the Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Petrosains, and other partners, ensuring it remains a platform to nurture future innovators and further support Malaysia’s STEM aspirations.
