At Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of its business strategy, reflecting a commitment to both the external community and the well-being of its employees. In 2024, LUNAS implemented a series of initiatives focused on education, sustainability, cultural engagement, and workplace safety, reaffirming its commitment to creating lasting value across these key areas.
LUNAS has been actively involved in various initiatives that contribute to the betterment of society. One notable effort this year focused on supporting education. In February 2024, LUNAS donated used garnet to Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), providing valuable materials for engineering students. This initiative not only offered practical resources for hands-on learning but also promoted environmental sustainability by repurposing industrial materials. The donation aligned with LUNAS’s broader objective of fostering education while ensuring responsible use of resources, equipping students to address real-world engineering challenges.
LUNAS also prioritised community involvement during significant cultural and spiritual events. On the 1st of April 2024, during the holy month of Ramadan, LUNAS made substantial contributions to institutions including the Sekolah Menengah Islam Darul Ta’lim Batu Kurau, Royal Malaysian Navy Lumut Mosque, Surau Al-Falah Taman Keris Lekir, Persatuan Kebajikan Raudhah Islam Malaysia (PKRIM) and Persatuan Veteran (PV) ATM Perak. These donations supported the communities in celebrating the holy month, reinforcing LUNAS’s commitment to solidarity and compassion. In addition, LUNAS promoted health and national pride through its sponsorship of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Manjung Excellent Merdeka Fun Run, held in September 2024. This event encouraged local families and individuals to come together in celebration of Malaysia’s Independence Day, fostering both health and national unity. LUNAS’s involvement in such events underscores its role as a responsible corporate citizen, supporting initiatives that strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of community.

In addition to external initiatives, LUNAS recognises that the strength of any organisation begins within. This year, internal CSR initiatives focused on enhancing employees’ well-being, mental health awareness and workplace safety.
The year started with a Mental Health Briefing to address the growing importance of mental well-being in the workplace. Experts provided valuable insights into managing stress and recognising mental health challenges, aiming to create a supportive work environment. By prioritising mental health, LUNAS ensures that employees have access to the necessary tools and resources to promote their well-being. This proactive approach enhances individual health and fosters a more engaged workforce, ultimately contributing to the company’s success. As the saying goes, “A healthy mind is the foundation for growth,” underscoring the importance of mental well-being for personal and organisational development.
During Ramadan, LUNAS organised a company-wide Iftar in April, bringing together employees from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the holy month. This shared meal was more than a tradition; it was an opportunity to strengthen bonds and foster inclusion within the workforce. The warm atmosphere of laughter and conversation exemplified the unity fostered through shared experiences, reinforcing the idea that employees are more than colleagues—they are a close-knit community.
In line with its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment, LUNAS held a Sexual Harassment Briefing in August 2024. The session provided employees with critical information on identifying, preventing and addressing harassment in the workplace. This initiative reflects its zero-tolerance policy on harassment and reinforces its dedication to fostering a culture of respect and safety for all employees.
LUNAS’s CSR initiatives in 2024 reflect a comprehensive approach to corporate responsibility, addressing both external community’s needs and internal employees’ well-being. Through targeted actions in education, sustainability, cultural support, and workplace safety, LUNAS continues to demonstrate its commitment to positive social impact. The company’s efforts in 2024 highlight the importance of investing in people—both within and outside the organisation—as a means of fostering long-term growth and development.Looking ahead, LUNAS remains resolute in its dedication to building a stronger, more united community and workforce, ensuring that its CSR efforts continue to drive meaningful change.
