Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) Inaugural ESG Conference

MRC has organised the inaugural Rubber ESG Conference 2024 on 17 January 2024 and a Roundtable Discussion on Self-Monitoring Mechanism on 18 January 2024 at the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral Hotel. The conference aimed to facilitate comprehensive understanding and meaningful discussion of critical issue related to emerging sustainability regulation, social compliance and environmental within the rubber industry. The roundtable discussion aimed to gain industry’s input and feedback on the self-monitoring mechanism to resolve the industry’s issue in dealing with escalating compliance expenses in response to the new regulations and standards which have been implemented globally.

With the tagline “Navigating ESG for a Resilient Future of Malaysia’s Rubber Industry” the conference explored the harmonization of sustainability, ESG, and social compliance. It featured seven key speakers from Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysian Rubber Board, the United Nations, European Union Delegation to Malaysia, and the International Labour Organization (ILO), who shared insights on national and international policies, regulations, and topics related to the rubber industry including SDGs and i-ESG. The event also witnessed MoU exchanges with Universiti Malaya and MARDEC Berhad, to reinforce our commitment to sustainable partnerships.

The event was concluded with a roundtable discussion that brought together representatives from the ILO and industry stakeholders. The focus was on tackling challenges head-on, with a spotlight on developing a self-monitoring mechanism and devising strategic approaches to foster a more sustainable future for the rubber industry.
