MRC’s Special Mission, alongside leading figures from the rubber industry, aimed to present a position paper on the European Union (EU) Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) to the European Commission (EC) in Brussels, Belgium.
Last year, MRC successfully presented the position paper on the EU CSDDD, titled “Together Towards a Sustainable Future for the Malaysian Rubber Industry,” to the European Commission’s (EC) Directorate-General (DG) for Justice and Consumers (JUST), as well as to the DG Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion (EMPL). Discussions on the EU Deforestation-free Regulations were also held with the DG International Partnership (INTPA), DG Environment (ENV), and DG Trade. The presentation of the position paper to the EC marked the conclusion of MRC’s Special Mission to Brussels.
A momentous meeting with the International Labour Organization (ILO) took place at the iconic UN House on Boulevard du Régent in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting was hosted by Mr. Casper Edmonds, Head of Unit, and Ms. Kassiyet Tulegenova, Technical Officer from the ILO Sectoral Policies Department. During the meeting, we discussed the successful ILO-MRC joint initiatives in 2022 for the rubber industry in Malaysia under the ‘Sustainable Supply Chain to Build Forward Better’ project, as well as future partnerships between the ILO and the rubber industry in Malaysia. This meeting marked a significant continuation of MRC’s involvement in the ILO’s project.
MRC continues to engage with the EC and relevant stakeholders to ensure that information, guidance, and necessary support are provided to facilitate a smooth transition towards a sustainable future for the industry.
