STM Lottery Plants 80 Trees for Greener Enviornment

Nov 12, 2024 | CSR Stories

STM Lottery once again collaborated with the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) to plant 80 Meranti trees at the Kepong Botanic Gardens in Kuala Lumpur. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and supports the Malaysian government’s goal of planting 100 million trees.

A team of staff volunteers from STM Lottery, led by Mr. Giam Say Khoon, Deputy General Manager of Communications & Sustainability, ventured to the Kepong Botanic Gardens of FRIM in Kuala Lumpur on 29 June 2024 to fulfill their annual commitment to this worthy cause.

The staff volunteers began their day with an informative session led by Mr. Dasrul Iskandar bin Darus, Head of the Silviculture Branch at FRIM, who instructed them on the best practices for planting saplings effectively. This tree planting programme not only helped to deepen the staff volunteers’ appreciation for environmental conservation, it has also allowed them to actively contribute to maintaining Malaysia’s diverse ecosystem as well as to enjoy the beautiful and exotic greenery at the botanical garden.

“We are thrilled with this partnership and we would like to thank FRIM for providing us the platform as well as expertise in making this event a success. The tree planting programme aligns seamlessly with STM Lottery’s efforts to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15, which focus on combating climate change and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems,” said Mr. Giam.

He added, “Our nation aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Through initiatives like this tree planting, we are making strides toward a greener, more sustainable future.”
STM Lottery is unwavering in its commitment to environmental sustainability. The collaboration with FRIM began in 2022 and as at to date the company has planted 200 trees at three difference locations.

The company is committed to fostering sustainability through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Our journey towards a more sustainable society encompasses active participation in environmental conservation, educational initiatives for children, community sports support, and charitable contributions
Planting trees at three different locations helps diversify the environmental benefits and can positively impact multiple areas.
