Green Workplace: Embrace Recycling and Reduce Waste at Work
Offices generate a substantial amount of waste, which can be recycled instead of heading to landfills. The simple act of recycling reduces pollution, supports broader sustainability goals and helps protect the planet for future generations. By embracing responsible waste management, Lagenda Properties play a key role in the collective effort to make workplaces greener and more eco-friendly.
Lagenda Properties has made strides in sustainability by implementing a systematic approach to recycling throughout the year. As of December 2024, their efforts have led to the collection of approximately 2468 kg of waste, including paper, plastics, metals, e-waste and cardboard. Notably, paper constitutes most of the total waste collected, highlighting its dominant role in office waste generation. This insight has inspired Lagenda Properties to emphasise paper recycling to tackle this prevalent source of waste effectively.
To further improve waste management, Lagenda Properties has begun installing recycling bins strategically across the office. These well-placed, accessible bins aim to encourage more efficient waste sorting and foster a culture of recycling among employees. The company believes that these bins will make recycling a convenient, visible, and habitual part of daily routines, helping them achieve more substantial waste reduction.
Textile Turnaround: Office Fabric Recycling Bin
Another aspect of our Lagenda Properties’ journey is fabric recycling. The purpose of this specifically designed bin is to collect and recycle fabric waste, including old uniforms, worn-out textiles, and other fabric items no longer in use. This initiative not only prevents these materials from becoming landfill waste but also contributes to the recycling industry’s efforts to turn discarded fabrics into new, usable products.
Lagenda Properties’ fabric recycling initiative is conducted in partnership with Upcycle4Better, an organisation dedicated to resource recovery through three main pathways: upcycling (enhancing the value of waste), recycling (retaining value), and downcycling (reducing value). These approaches help prevent waste from ending up in landfills and foster creative reuse that fully supports the company’s broader sustainability mission.
As of December 2024, Lagenda Properties has collected an impressive 465 kg of fabric waste. The positive response to this initiative has encouraged the company to extend it beyond the office to the Clubhouse at Bandar Baru Setia Awan Perdana (BBSAP), encouraging both residents and the surrounding community to participate. By making fabric recycling accessible to more people, Lagenda Properties aim to foster a stronger, community-wide commitment to sustainability.
Save the Planet, One Hour at a Time: Earth Hour
On March 23, 2024, Lagenda Properties took a symbolic step towards environmental conservation by participating in Earth Hour. This global initiative, which encourages people to turn off lights for one hour, is a powerful reminder of the impact of small, collective actions on a global scale. By joining millions worldwide in switching off lights, Lagenda Properties underscored their commitment to combatting climate change and fostering environmental awareness.
From 8:30 to 9:30 PM, the company’s office went dark, with employees encouraged to unplug electronic devices and turn off unnecessary lighting. This one-hour blackout created a moment for reflection on individual and collective environmental impact, reinforcing the notion that small changes can yield meaningful benefits.
Participation in Earth Hour is just one part of Lagenda Properties’ broader commitment to sustainability. This initiative complements the company’s broader goals of reducing their carbon footprint and promoting environmental stewardship both within their office and beyond. Lagenda Properties is proud to contribute to global efforts to combat climate change and are determined to continue exploring ways to make a positive difference.
Closing Thoughts
These sustainability initiatives—the Green Workplace recycling program, the Fabric Recycling Bin, and Earth Hour participation—are all steps towards a cleaner, greener world. Through each of these efforts, Lagenda Properties not only reduces waste but also inspires a culture of environmental responsibility. The company believes that every action, big or small, contributes to a more sustainable future. Together, with their employees, residents, and the surrounding community, Lagenda Properties aims to make a difference— one recycling bin, one fabric piece, and one hour at a time.
