A Heartfelt Visit: CSR Malaysia’s Joyful Day with Rumah Charis Residents

Sep 12, 2024 | CSR Stories

Recently, the CSR Malaysia team embarked on a heartfelt visit to Rumah Charis Old Folks Home, nested in the quiet suburb of Jalan Cempaka, Taman Lucky, KL. The visit was a shining example of CSR Malaysia’s ongoing dedication to corporate social responsibility and its mission to uplift the less fortunate. In addition to financial donations, the team brought essential food supplies, offering comfort and care to the home’s residents.

During the visit, the CSR Malaysia team had the pleasure of engaging with some of the home’s vibrant and charismatic residents. Suzan Chew, a former chemist who once worked in the UK, shared stories of her time abroad and her eventual return to Malaysia. Meanwhile, Amazing Lee, a former hospitality professional, recounted her colourful career at one of Malaysia’s top luxury hotels. It was truly heartwarming to see these women, who once led active and fulfilling lives, still brimming with energy and purpose. Many residents take part in daily singing classes, while others, like 81 year old Lee, continue to contribute in meaningful ways by preparing meals for the home, demonstrating their enduring sense of responsibility and engagement.

With Malaysia Day just around the corner, the conversation naturally turned to cherished memories of the past. The residents fondly reminisced about their experiences during Malaysia’s first Independence Day and shared their advice for the younger generation. Their stories sparked a contagious sense of patriotism that spread through the room, leaving everyone present with a renewed sense of pride in being Malaysian.

CSR Malaysia’s visit also underscored the importance of continued support for homes like Rumah Charis. The public is encouraged to contribute not only monetary donations but also essential items such as food, household goods, and medical supplies. Those interested in helping can visit the Rumah Charis website, where they will find a donation portal with all the necessary information.

In addition, Rumah Charis is organising a special charity event on the 20th of November, where the residents will proudly showcase their talents, performing songs they have been rehearsing for weeks. This event promises to be a joyful celebration of life and community spirit and the public is warmly invited to join in showing their support for Rumah Charis.

CSR Malaysia’s visit to Rumah Charis not only brought joy to the residents but also reminded everyone of the deep bonds we share as a society. The warmth and resilience of the elderly residents serve as a powerful reminder that every small contribution can make a meaningful difference. As the residents eagerly prepare for their upcoming event, their enthusiasm is infectious, inspiring us all to support their journey with ongoing kindness and care. Together, we can help them continue to thrive with dignity and joy.
