A family in Kuantan is appealing to the public and corporations for donations to raise RM9 million for their baby Athif who is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and urgently requires Zolgensma therapy to survive.
Baby Athif was diagnosed with SMA, a rare genetic disorder that affects all the muscles in the body, shortly after birth. SMA is the leading genetic cause of infant death, and without treatment, babies with the disease typically die within the first few years of life.
Zolgensma therapy is a revolutionary treatment that can halt or even reverse the effects of the disease. However, the therapy comes at an astronomical cost. Baby Athif needs to raise RM9 million to cover the cost of the treatment and related expenses.
Baby Athif and his family live in Kuantan, Malaysia, and have to travel frequently to Kuala Lumpur for medical care as the necessary medical facilities are not available in their hometown. They have set up a crowdfunding campaign to appeal for donations from the public and corporations to help save baby Athif’s life.
“We are desperate for help to raise the funds necessary to get baby Athif the treatment he needs to survive,” said the family. The family has set up a crowdfunding campaign on Give.asia, a leading crowdfunding platform, to raise the RM9 million needed to cover the cost of Zolgensma therapy and related expenses.
They are also seeking support from corporations that may be able to help fund the cost of the treatment. “We humbly ask the public and corporations to support our cause and help us save baby Athif’s life,” said the family. “Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal and gives us hope that our baby can live a long and healthy life.”
