Gem & Bread Special Needs Support Group, located in Damansara Kim, is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded with a heart for inclusion. It empowers intellectually challenged adolescents and adults by equipping them with essential life, social and job skills—helping them transition from dependency to greater independence at home and within the community.
Gem & Bread also runs a dedicated day care centre for adults with special needs, offering a range of enrichment classes including Baking, Speech & Drama, Art & Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, English & Communication and Fashion & Sewing. These programmes promote personal development, creativity and social engagement in a nurturing and inclusive environment. The organisation also provides emotional and informational support for parents and guardians, while championing equal educational opportunities across all socioeconomic backgrounds.
Expanding its impact beyond the centre, founders Teresa Tan and Sam Loh launched the Soup Kitchen by Gem & Bread (G&B SK)—a compassionate social enterprise anchored by an in-house bakery and kitchen. G&B SK prepares and distributes nutritious meals to underserved communities such as old folks’ homes, orphanages, OKU centres and street friends. With just RM100, the initiative can provide cooked meals for 20 individuals in need.
More than just food, G&B SK delivers dignity, comfort and hope—turning everyday meals into meaningful acts of care.
From skill-building and creative therapies, to outreach and nourishment, Gem & Bread continues to transform lives and uplift communities—one individual, one family and one meal at a time.
